Vivaldi 8.0 Launching on May 20 at 9am CET as a free download for Windows, macOS and Linux. The update focuses on a new unified design that combines browser toolbars, tabs, side panels, and other interface elements into a single seamless surface around web content.
Unlike many recent browser releases, this version does not introduce new AI features, such as AI search, summaries, or chatbots.
What changes Vivaldi’s new integrated design
In earlier versions of Vivaldi, tabs, toolbars, and side panels appeared as separate visual blocks around web content. With Vivaldi 8.0, these limitations have been removed, creating a unified interface where all core elements form a single seamless surface. This change is purely visual and structural, with no impact on functionality.
Users who prefer the previous layout can switch back at any time. Vivaldi continues to support its long-term vision of making interface options optional rather than mandatory.
The update also introduces a new set of default themes to highlight the unified design. These themes range from minimalist options to designs inspired by Norwegian heritage. If users do not find a suitable default, they can create their own themes or choose from over 7,000 community-submitted options available in the Vivaldi Theme Gallery.
Navigation options and no new AI features in Vivaldi 8.0
Vivaldi 8.0 allows users to navigate using gestures, keyboard shortcuts, or command-line commands. It also includes integrated tools like email, calendar, feeds, and notes, which can be accessed directly from the browser without having to switch between tabs or apps.
The release does not introduce AI-powered search, summarization, chatbot integration, or AI-assisted writing tools. This is in contrast to recent updates from other browser developers.
Google added AI modes and AI overviews to Search, Microsoft expanded Copilot integration in Edge, and Mozilla is adding AI features to Firefox while giving users the option to disable them.
Vivaldi’s approach is consistent with its long-standing privacy-first philosophy. The browser has historically avoided telemetry, third-party tracking, and bundled services, and the 8.0 release continues to follow this stance without including AI features.
Availability of Vivaldi 8.0 on Windows, macOS and Linux
Vivaldi 8.0 is now available for download Official Vivaldi website. Existing users will get the update delivered through the browser’s standard update process.
This release is limited to desktop platforms; Updates for Vivaldi’s mobile apps on Android and iOS will be released separately.
