Anthropic has introduced cloud fable 5A version of its Mythos-class model architecture with advanced security features.
This model is available to Pro, Max, and Enterprise customers at no additional charge until June 22. After that date, pricing will be based on usage. Fable 5 consumes tokens at a much faster rate than previous cloud models.
The launch comes after Anthropic announced Mythos in April, which the company said could raise security concerns if released without restrictions.
The Fable 5 is the first widely accessible version of that model class, with security measures that block or redirect sensitive queries related to offensive cybersecurity, biology, or chemistry to the previous Opus 4.8 model.
How CloudFable 5 is different, and how fast it burns through tokens
Cloud Mythos is only available to a select group of trusted partners, including government cyberdefense teams and some life sciences researchers.
The Fable 5 uses the same basic model but includes security measures that prevent it from dealing with the most sensitive types of inquiries. According to Anthropic, these security features redirect sensitive requests to Opus 4.8 instead of trying to respond directly.
The Fable 5 is Anthropic’s most demanding model in terms of compute, using tokens at a significantly higher rate than Opus 4.8. During regular conversation usage, token consumption is approximately double that of Opus. When workflow mode and settings are set to high or xhigh effort, the consumption rate increases rapidly.
BleepingComputer tested the model and found that the Fable 5 used approximately 1 million tokens in eight minutes during a workflow session. This exhausted the $100 maximum daily allowance of membership in just under nine minutes. Workflow is a new system that breaks complex signals into smaller tasks and runs parallel sub-agents to handle them.
High computational cost is the main reason why Anthropic is unable to offer Opus 4.8 and Fable 5 under the same conditions as other models.
Availability and price
The Fable 5 is available for free for Pro, Max, and Enterprise customers now through June 22. After that date, the model will switch to a usage-based pricing plan. Anthropic has not yet announced the per-token cost that will apply after the free period ends.
Cloud Code, Anthropic’s command-line coding tool, now offers the Fable 5 as a selectable model option.
To manage token usage during the free period, users should use the Fable 5 in standard conversation mode rather than Workflow with higher effort settings, which can quickly exhaust daily limits.
