Anthropic has introduced cloud tag In beta for your Enterprise and Team plans. The feature allows users to invoke the company’s AI directly within shared Slack channels by typing @Claude.
The integration takes the cloud from limiting one-on-one chat sessions to participating in group threads, enabling team members to delegate tasks, review output, and continue their work asynchronously.
This feature operates using Anthropic’s Opus 4.8 model. According to Anthropic, 65% of the code in its internal product suite is generated with the company’s private version of cloud tags.
How does cloud tag work in Slack
Tagging @cloud in a Slack channel sends a request to the AI. Instead of replying privately, the cloud replies in the same channel, making the conversation visible to other team members in the thread.
Rob Seaman, general manager of Slack, explains that Cloud’s responses appear as open rather than private messages. Because the cloud logs the status of its work directly to the communication thread, multiple team members can observe execution steps as they occur.
The system continuously tracks information from active channels to create context. This automated history tracking helps reduce the need for team members to retype basic company data or project details every time they access the cloud.
Asynchronous and ambient operations in team channels
Integration allows asynchronous task execution in real time without the need for human input. When a network administrator enables the tool’s “ambient” mode, Cloud Tag can monitor the thread itself, keep track of tasks for several days, and send priority notifications from the integrated software. It also keeps track of unresolved assignments.
Kat Wu, head of product at Cloud Code, told Reuters that linking her personal cloud tags to her email collection helps the system analyze incoming messages, identify urgent messages and send alerts directly to Slack.
While code generation remains a key use case, Anthropic also aims to reach non-technical office workers. The initial customer implementation primarily involved querying database metrics, parsing analytics data, processing internal IT support tickets, and tracking project status across teams.
Administrative controls, security trade-offs, and how to implement cloud tags
Integration introduces new security considerations. Anthropic has incorporated administrative controls, including scoped cloud identities that limit data access to approved departments, localized memories and tool integration limited to channels authorized by IT, a management portal with comprehensive logs of user queries, and organizational caps to regulate monthly token costs.
These measures are intended to prevent sensitive proprietary data from entering unauthorized channels. IT departments deploying Cloud Tag should carefully set access limits and channel permissions before implementing it more widely.
Moving generative AI from personal chat sessions to persistent corporate communication channels involves some trade-offs.
On the positive side, this function can reduce friction, automatically capture context across changing project teams, and reduce time spent on manual updates. However, there are also risks to consider:
- Incorrectly configured access controls can expose sensitive information.
- Autonomous, asynchronous execution can remove human oversight from intermediate workflow steps. Additionally, the risk of data exposure increases, as AI agents can read chat histories, connect to email accounts, and modify code repositories.
To address these concerns, corporate IT and security teams should plan a structured rollout. It should start with limited access for cloud tags, include regular audits of behavior across all channels, and gradually expand permissions only after confirming use cases and completing security reviews.
Reference: How Anthropic’s enterprise push and cloud tag fit in
The launch comes as Anthropic competes heavily with OpenAI for enterprise customers. Recently, Anthropic secured a $65 billion Series H funding round, valuing the company at $965 billion after the investment, which is higher than OpenAI’s $852 billion valuation. Both companies have filed confidential paperwork for an initial public offering.
According to Ramp’s May 2026 AI Index, Anthropic’s adoption rate among enterprises reached 34.4%, surpassing OpenAI’s 32.3%. The release of Cloud Tags expands Anthropic’s presence into an everyday tool used by many enterprise users.
Cloud Tags is currently available in beta for Enterprise and Team plan customers through Slack. Anthropic has not announced plans to expand this feature to other communications platforms.
