Steam Controller New Orders Now Push to 2027 as Demand Outstrips Supply | Free Download

Valve has announced that new orders for the Steam Controller will not be fulfilled until 2027 at the earliest. The company noted that response to the controller has exceeded expectations since its launch in May 2026.

Valve also confirmed that it has no plans to stop manufacturing the Steam Controller. The reservation list will remain in place, and customers will be notified by email when it is their turn to purchase.

How delivery windows and reservation systems work

Valve now offers three estimated delivery windows for Steam controller orders, depending on when they are placed:

  • September 2026,
  • December 2026, and some time later
  • 2027, specific dates to be announced later.

Customers who have already placed an order can log in to their Steam account to view their specified delivery window.

Once a customer’s reservation moves to the front of the queue, Valve sends a notification email. The customer has 72 hours to complete the purchase.

If the reservation does not convert into a sale within that period, it is forfeited, and the opportunity is offered to the next customer in line.

Customers who wish to retain their spot should ensure that their Steam account email address is current and regularly checked, monitor Steam notifications during the expected delivery window and be prepared to complete a purchase within 72 hours of receiving notification.

Known Steam Controller Issues and Valve’s Widespread Hardware Barriers

The Steam Controller has been generally well received by users who have received the unit. However, compatibility issues with the rumble feature have made it difficult to use with some games.

Valve hasn’t provided any timeline for fixing the rumble issue, but a firmware update is likely to be part of the solution. Additionally, the controller features a cinematic scream sound effect that plays when the device is dropped or thrown.

Supply constraints contribute to ongoing challenges with valve hardware pricing and availability. Recently, the price of the Steam Deck increased significantly due to persistent component and memory shortages, with the 1TB OLED model now costing $949.

Valve has also announced the launch of the Steam Machine console and Steam Frame VR headset for summer 2026, though specific release dates and pricing details have not yet been revealed.

Limited supplies and reservation queues for the Steam Controller mean that anyone ordering one today should expect a wait of several months.

Valve has not indicated any plans to increase manufacturing capacity that would increase supply beyond what has already been announced.
