✅ Permanently free to own – no time limits

It brings with it a bit of a story. Prologue: Go back! is a game of survival from Brandon Green – The creators of PUBG, better known as PlayerUnknown – and their studio PlayerUnknown Productions. It launched in Steam Early Access in November 2025 for $20. It was once described by Green himself as a “realistic Minecraft” and was widely considered one of the more interesting upcoming survival games due to its insane procedural world generation technology.
Then, in June 2026, the studio announced that it was stopping development. The team ran out of funding, laid off staff, and could not continue work on a pilot project of this scale. The final update dropped this week – the game left Early Access in an incomplete state. The studio’s focus is now on preserving Melba, its in-house machine-learning engine that generates planetary-scale procedural worlds, which was always the real long-term goal.
On its way out the door, PlayerUnknown Productions did two things: made Prolog permanently free, and introduced unrestricted refund For anyone who previously paid for it – valid for 60 days, with no time limit and no “purchased too early” restrictions, until August 17, 2026.
So what do you actually get? A single-player open-world survival experience where a new 64 km² map is created each time. You start out in a woodland cabin, with no quest markers, no waypoints, and no hand-holders – just hunger, thirst, temperature, and a weather tower somewhere off in the distance. Each run is completely different. The studio hopes to return to it one day; For now, it’s yours to keep.
